“Hey there, lover boy,” a low, husky voice whispered in his ear, and a knee propped itself over his.

“Mmm.” Locke kept his eyes closed as he turned onto his

side and ran his hand up the leg. “Hmm?”

He’d expected warm, supple flesh, but instead found a smooth, form-fitting material. Had Bexley put on pajamas while he slept?

He blinked his eyes open to reveal a closeup view of a pair of faintly luminous eyes.

“You’re not Bexley,” Locke growled with a frown.

“What was your first clue?” Peth countered, smirking at him.

She took his hand and placed it on her hip. “You can if you want.”

“Didn’t you say this was just a dream?” He removed his hand from her hip, sat up in the bed, and looked around to gain his bearings. A round purple bed sat in the middle of a desolate volcanic plain while Titan Chimera stood nearby.

“People can have sex in their dreams, but I suppose you’ve had your fill.” She flashed a half-smile. “Or rather, Bexley’s had hers.”

“And how would you know?”

“Because you and I are connected.” She tapped his forehead. “I see everything you see, just as I see everything around Titan Chimera.”

“Great.” He threw the bedcover aside and climbed out of bed. Like Peth, he was fully dressed in this surreal realm. “Should I expect a complete lack of privacy from now on?”

“Now that’s not fair.” Peth put on a faux pouting face.

“It isn’t?” He raised an eyebrow.

“Okay, fine.” The pouty look vanished. “Maybe I should have told you that little detail earlier.”

“Maybe? ”

“But give me a break. There’s a lot about our relationship to unpack. You can’t expect me to do it all in one go.”

“I can, and I do,” he replied forcefully.

“Well, I suppose that’s an understandable attitude.” She crawled on her hands and knees to the edge of the bed. “Can I be personal, Locke?”

“I think we’ve already crossed that line,” he replied, deadpan. “But sure.”

“I am so relieved I can see out of your eyes!” she exclaimed, genuine relief etched across her face.

“Is that so?” He crossed his arms.

“Do you have any concept of what it’s been like for me?”

“No, but I have the feeling you’re about to tell me.”

“Before I brought you here, all I could do was look out through Chimera’s sensors, and do you know what that was like?

Day after day after frickin’ day of nothing but this ship’s dumb hangar interspersed with Bexley working on her projects while singing dirty lyrics. Sweet girl, but she can’t carry a tune to save her life!”

“Okay,” Locke conceded. “Granted, being stuck like that had to be hard.”

“Also …” Peth licked her lips.

“What?”

She held out her arms to him, palms up.

“What?” he repeated.

“Come on. Remember what I said last time?” She gave him a flirty eyebrow waggle.

“That I’d thank you next time we talked,” he recalled dully.

“And?” She smiled at him and made a “give me” gesture with her hands.

Locke narrowed his eyes at her.

“What?” she defended. “You prefer the wheelchair over women throwing themselves at you?”

He sighed.
